How obesity affects men

Hypnosis for weight loss Los Angeles

According to the National Cancer institute, “Obesity and physical inactivity may account for 25 to 30 percent of several major cancers.”

When it comes to studying the effects of obesity, much is known about how being overweight can affect women, but very little is known about how it affects men.  One reason for this is that women tend to be over-represented in studies aimed at weight loss.  This may change in the future because the numbers of obese men have been increasing over the last decade.

In recent years, some obesity studies have discovered some disturbing facts about how obesity affects men.  Like their very heavy female counterparts, blood samples and stress tests showed that heavy men are less able to process carbohydrates.  They were even shown to have less stamina than women.

Weight loss for men Los AngelesMen tend to accumulate fat in their upper bodies, where women tend to accumulate it in their hips and thighs. Think of the classic beer-bellied man as opposed to the pear-shaped woman.  Obesity related illnesses such as heart disease and type II diabetes tend to occur more in people whose weight distribution is more in the upper body region rather than the lower body.

Another fact uncovered in recent studies is that obese men tend to have lower testosterone levels than normal weight men.  In addition, having low testosterone levels is positively correlated with having type II diabetes.  Leading endocrinologists are now suggesting that all men with type II diabetes be screened for decreased testosterone levels.  Men who lost weight saw their testosterone levels return to normal.

Other effects of obesity on men include: erectile dysfunction, low sperm count, reduced sperm motility, benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate,) and kidney stones.  The most surprising fact is that a whopping 2 out 3 adults (men and women) in the United States are at risk of getting and possibly dying from cancer because of their obesity.  Some of the most common cancers in men include liver, gallbladder, pancreas and gallbladder.

In addition to all of these physical effects, being obese also affects men’s self-esteem and potential for career advancement.  Data from recent studies show that, like women, overweight men tend to suffer confidence issues and are less likely to be hired or promoted than normal weight men.

For many, weight gain starts in the mind.  Food is often seen as a coping mechanism or as a source of comfort instead of fuel.  Hypnosis can help those suffering from negative eating patterns to stop overeating and start eating normal portions of food.  The best candidate for hypnosis is a person who is fully committed to creating change in their lives.  For an obese person, reaching ones natural weight is a process and that is completely acceptable.  The most important thing is that one reaches their goal in the time frame that is right for them.  Hypnosis can help make that a reality.   Call Now!

Weight loss hypnosis on The Doctors show

Doctors show asked me to do some weight loss hypnosis for their “6 different ways to lose weight” show.  They had me hypnotize Monica Martin, who explained that she was determined to slim down; her goal to lose 60 pounds.  Monica went into hypnosis beautifully and as you can tell in the footage, the experience was very relaxing and she felt safe.

I gave Monica suggestions to eat healthy, eat smaller portions, to exercise as well as to feel confident.  One of the things the show didn’t mention is that for issues such as weight loss, it is suggested to do a few sessions so that through repetition, the mind learns to think and behave like a slim person.  Monica’s first session gave her a powerful start to a better way of living.  She is serious about losing the weight and keeping it off and she looks forward to being able to fit comfortably in her clothes.  In fact, she has agreed to continue coming in for sessions so check back in to find out how she is doing.

Weight Loss Hypnosis The Doctors Show

I’m glad that The Doctors show successfully showed that hypnosis is valid for weight loss. In the same way that a computer has programs that either work or don’t work well, so do our subconscious minds.  Hypnosis give you the ability to comfortably and safely input new positive ways of thinking and behaving into your mind.  Imagine being able to do the things you’ve been wanting to do.  That is what hypnosis can help you do.

Sugar and weight loss

Hypnosis to eat healthy

I work with several personal trainers – some of the best in helping their clients to shed stubborn pounds. These fitness professionals understand that for successful long-term weight loss to happen, an individual must combine regular exercise with healthy, balanced eating habits. They know that while they are able to help their clients get the best workouts, it is ultimately up to the client whether they are going to eat correctly or not.

Recently, I had the opportunity to give a presentation at the Easy Fitness gym located in Marina Del Rey (Yes, they also have a Santa Monica location). I’ve helped many of their clients with a variety of issue from smoking cessation to anxiety eating. My main focus was on explaining how eating sugar affects us on all levels and why it can be so difficult to stop.

When eating is done for comfort or as a reward instead of for maximizing health, it can develop an unhealthy pattern that the mind constantly tries to replay. Our minds like patterns, so it is important to be aware when a negative one is playing out. This would be evidenced by your behavior; such as eating an entire half-gallon of mint chocolate chip ice cream when you feel upset.
Making things worse, sugar has a physical addictive component to it which is not unlike that seen in heroine. It stimulates the pleasure centers of our brain making you want more to just feel good. For these reasons, I often find myself using hypnosis to help people stop being addicted to sweets. In the process, my clients usually find themselves losing weight.

When I was done explaining sugar’s role in inhibiting weight loss, I hypnotized the group. Everybody laid down on their yoga mats and off they went into a very deep state of relaxation where their minds were highly suggestible to the healthy eating suggestions that I then gave them. I’m looking forward to hearing some feedback on their experience. By the time we were done, they were so relaxed that nobody said a peep! : )

Working out alone can only do so much if you are not making the right food choices. Hypnosis can make it easier. To learn more about my weight loss through hypnosis program visit my weight and sugar release page.

Why Exercise Isn’t An Option

Exercise-Motivation-Los-Angeles

Engaging in regular exercise is truly not an option. The facts that medical science has amassed to date show a clear correlation between being inactive and certain life-threatening diseases. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that two million deaths annually are directly linked to a lack or regular exercise. It is a fact: being inactive is detrimental to your health.

Sixty to eighty-five percent of people all over the world currently live sedentary lifestyles, which place them at greater risk of dying from a wide variety of ailments from heart attack and stroke to certain kinds of cancers.
A study out of the University of Hong Kong and the Department of Health showed that twenty percent of all deaths in persons aged 35 or older where caused by inactivity. This is more than the number of deaths caused by smoking. In addition, the study found that the chances of dying of cancer were 45% greater in men and 28% greater in women.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for both men and women. Regular exercise increases your cardiovascular fitness, which in turn lessens your risk for the ailments your cardiovascular system. People who exercise regularly are at a lower risk for heart attack, stroke, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. You don’t even have to exercise long to reduce your risk. Studies have shown that getting your heart pumping with some form of aerobic activity for as little as fifteen to twenty minutes per day will do it.

Engaging in daily exercise can also reduce your risk of getting certain types of cancers. Numerous studies have been conducted in recent years and taken together, show that regular exercise helps to reduce the incidence of certain types of cancer. More specifically, the studies show that exercise reduces the incidence of the following types of cancers: colon cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, endometrial and prostate cancer. The percentages by which risk was reduced vary from thirty percent to fifty percent.

In a study published by the British Journal of Sports Medicine, 2560 Finnish males over a period of seventeen years. Over this period of time 181 of the men went on to develop cancer. The study found that the men who did not develop cancer engaged in intense physical activity on a regular basis. The study concluded that to maintain the best chance at avoiding cancer, it is necessary for people to engage in vigorous physical activity on a continuous basis.

Hypnosis to motivate you to exercise - bones

In addition, exercise has been found to mitigate or prevent type II diabetes and osteoporosis. In fact, strength training can actively improve bone strength and aids in the generation of new bone tissue. This aspect is tremendously beneficial for older women who have been diagnosed with osteoporosis or for whom a higher risk exists for developing the disease.

Exercise can benefit you mentally as well as physically. It helps you to stay calm and relaxed even in stressful situations. Exercise makes you feel good. When you exercise, your brain releases special chemicals known as endorphins. These are the “feel good” chemicals of the brain and cause a sense of well-being and almost euphoric sensation. If you’ve heard the term “runner’s high” this what it is referring to.

In addition to the health benefits regular physical activity affords, it is also a must if you want to maintain weight loss. According to Dr. James Hill, director of the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado at Denver, “What we find is that people that focus on diet aren’t very successful in the long run without also focusing on physical activity.” Without regular exercise, there is a high chance that the person will regain the weight because they aren’t expending as many calories as they use to. Hence the reason why exercising must be part of your lifestyle.

As you can see, engaging in regular physical activity is very important to your continued good health. Being inactive is akin to not taking care of yourself. If you feel that you are lacking the drive and motivation to follow a regular exercise regimen that promotes your well being then you should start being hypnotized for exercise motivation. It truly is all in the mind. Your conscious mind knows that exercise is good for you but your subconscious mind is thinking very differently. Through the use of hypnosis, we can train your mind to look forward to exercising by making your subconscious mind understand that this is what you want. You choose to be happy and healthy.

Yes, the hypnotherapist hypnotizes herself. . . to eat healthy!

Eat Healthy HypnosisI’ve taken an honest look at what I eat. I’ve realized that up until now my mind has always seen a big negative when it comes to vegetables and salads. My obsession with carbohydrates started in my childhood.

I’ve never liked the taste of beef and to this day don’t eat beef or pork. My weakness use to be bacon. There’s just something about bacon! Nonetheless, I refrain from eating it since I found out that pigs supposedly have the IQ of dogs and I’m a big dog lover. So now I do turkey bacon.

My grandmother who raised us was Puerto Rican and Puerto Rican food is rich in carbs – rice, beans, plantains. Even when we did have a vegetable, it was a starchy one like yucca which is the equivalent to a potato. There is nothing leafy or green about it. Add in some avocado and that’s a whole lot of calories. While we also had chicken and fish, my grandmother and sis where absolute carnivores so while they feasted on a lot of red meat, I got used to eating mostly carbs.

I really do wish somebody would have explained to me as a child that one needed to have a balance in what one ate – proteins, carbs and fats. My grandmother just didn’t know any better. She was more focused on the nuts and bolts of raising two kids on her own than to focus on nutrition. Plus, I don’t think she knew about how different foods do different things to your body.

Since the Hypnotherapist does hypnotize herself, I’ve now started doing it to enjoy veggies and salads. I’m literally changing the past negative associations I have with eating greens and giving myself suggestions that eating vegetables and salads is something that I enjoy doing because they benefit me. I’m even making changes as to how I eat them. I’m adding in spices to all my salads so that they taste yummier to me. I’m even making it a point to feel really proud of myself when I eat them. Weight loss truly is about fine tuning – figuring out what isn’t working and then changing it to what will.

The same applies to life in general. Things have to be done differently in order for the end result to change. It doesn’t mean that it has to be an absolute sweeping change – sometimes even a very minor change can do the trick.
