Can’t Help Somebody Who Doesn’t Want to Be Helped

You can’t help somebody who doesn’t want to be helped. You’d be surprised at the number of people that email me because they want to help a loved one.

Sometimes the loved one initially says that yes they want to change whatever negative situation is going on, only to then continue doing the same thing, and other times the person’s genuine love and concern, is met with disdain or even verbal abuse.

The latter was the case of a very sweet girl who wanted so badly to help her mom, my heart went out to her, because even with the insults and put-down she experienced from her mom, she still wanted so badly to help her.

If you’re currently going through one of these situations, it’s important then that you understand that you can only do so much to help somebody if that person is not open to it. All you can do is your best and then let it go. Unless you have underage children the only person responsible for you is you, instead focus on doing what you need to do to ensure that you grow and thrive.

Andy Warhol said it best when he said: “When people are ready to, they change they never do it before then, and sometimes they die before they get around to it. You can’t make them change if they don’t want to, just like when they do want to, you can’t stop them”.
